On May 25, 1810, the installation of the first national government was decided. Although loyalty to the King of Spain -in exile- was still maintained, it was the most important step towards the independence of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata -a predecessor state of Argentina- which would be declared six years later, on 9 July 1816.
