The IV Reunion of the Joint Committee of Commerce between Argentina and India took place in Buenos Aires on August 24th, 2026, co-chaired by the Secretary of International Economic Relations of the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, Ambassador Fernando Brun, and the Secretary of Commerce of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, Rajesh Agrawal. The meeting gave continuity to the commitments assumed during the official visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Argentina in July 2025, with an agenda aimed at deepening the bilateral strategic association.
Bilateral trade is growing in a sustainable manner. In 2025, Argentine exports to India reached a record of USD 5.472 million, with an annual growth of 39,1%, and India consolidated as the country's fifth trading partner. The trend continues: during the first seven months of 2026, Argentine exports to India reached USD 3.685 million.
Argentina presented the measures adopted to facilitate external trade and the opportunities to expand the access of Argentine products to the Indian market, with the objective of diversifying the export basket. The delegations addressed the possibilities of deepening investments and cooperation in mining, energy and infrastructure, with particular emphasis on lithium, copper, uranium, petroleum and gas.
In agro-food material, concrete advances have been achieved in reaching the markets. Both parties identified the products whose phytosanitary qualification was prioritized — citrus fruits, nuts, plums and lentils in the Argentine case — and agreed on reciprocal access to the markets of milk and dairy products, to be implemented in the next 30 to 45 days.
Both countries reaffirmed their interest in expanding the MERCOSUR-India Preferencial Trade Agreement (PTA), and agreed to complete the negotiations within a year. The agenda also included health, air connectivity and tourism, telecommunications and cooperation between organisms.
Remarkable presence of companies
The private sector was the protagonist of this agenda of results. Held on August 25th, 2026, in the ceremonial venue of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Empresarial Forum Argentina–India, with the participation of Ambassador Brun, and Secretary Agrawal, gathered more than 90 companies affiliated to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Argentine chambers belonging to energy, mining, engineering, agroindustry, technology, banking and automotive sectors.
In this ocassion, CII subscribed conventions with the Argentine Argentine Empresarial Consejo (IABC), the Argentine Chamber of Commerce (CAC) and the Chamber of Importers of the Argentine Republic (CIRA).
Argentina and India share an economic agenda with huge potential that is a reality. More trade, opening of markets, facilitation, investments and new businesses are the concrete expression of a strategic association that seeks to generate tangible results for both countries.
